This book is an account of those with whom Churchill both worked and relaxed, written by his former Private Secretary who during the last twenty-five years of Churchill's life was one of his most intimate friends. The list includes such international figures as Roosevelt and de Gaulle; wartime leaders like Monty and Ismay; Churchill's own family; his colleagues from Beaverbrook to Eden and Macmillan; and also those less known figures who worked for him behind the scenes. Though not primarily a book about Churchill himself, in describing his associates it also provides an assessment from close personal observation of his qualities and defects as well as glimpses of him as a statesman, a strategist and a human being.
